Case study · Family-owned painting company · Southern California

The owner liked his website. It was sending customers to the next painter.

He'd spent $65,309 on ads that year. Homeowners who saw them checked his website before they called, and that website hid his best proof, made booking hard, and went silent after someone asked for help. Here's what we found in one day, and what we rebuilt in 16.

Good company. Great work. Quiet leak.

This company has been painting homes for 18 years. Nearly 3,000 projects. Hundreds of 5-star reviews. Voted the best painter in its area two years in a row. The owner had every reason to trust his website.

He wasn't asking us to fix it. He liked it. So we didn't start with the code. We started where his customers start: on a phone, at night, after the kids are in bed, trying to decide who to let into the house.

9:14 PM

A homeowner picks up her phone to find a painter.

This is what she saw, screen by screen. We recreated each one from the old site, with the details changed.

  1. 1. The reviews

Hundreds of 5-star reviews were on the site. Most visitors saw a gray box asking them to accept cookies first.

  2. 2. The first screen

On a phone, the headline broke mid-word and there was no button to call or book.

  3. 3. The form

The only form lived on the Contact page: long, a required address, and a CAPTCHA at the end.

  4. 4. After she sent it

One line on the thank-you page. No email. Nothing to read. Just waiting.

That's the moment she opens the next painter's website. Not because his work was worse. Because his website made the next step harder.

Underneath, Google was being pointed the wrong way.

Links between your own pages tell Google which pages matter. The pages that should have won local searches were getting almost none. Here's how many pages linked to each one, before and after.

Found in a day. Live in 16.

49 problems, fixed in three layers. The new site went live with every page, title and ranking in place, and zero broken links.

1

What Google sees

The foundation

We rebuilt the internal links so every blog post points to its city, service and pricing page, and every city page points down to its services. Every old address became a clean redirect. Every page, title and ranking kept its place.

2

What a homeowner sees

The front door

Reviews and videos show instantly. A short tap-through form sits at the top of every page that matters. And a "Schedule Your Estimate" button now sits wherever trust peaks.

3

What happens after she books

The handoff

Every booked estimate gets an automatic email that sets the agenda for the visit: start at the kitchen table, end at the kitchen table, with every decision maker there.

A button wherever she starts to trust you.

The old site's buttons sat in the menu and on the Contact page, far from the proof. Trust doesn't peak in the menu. It peaks halfway through a neighbor's video.

Free Estimate Schedule Your Estimate

"Free" attracts people shopping for a number. "Schedule" sets up a real appointment with a real person.

  • Inside the video testimonial playerRight as a neighbor finishes telling their story on camera
  • Inside the full-size photo viewerWhile she's swiping through finished homes
  • Beside the reviewsAfter the 12 strongest reviews, filtered to her topic and area
  • After every question we answerEach answer backed by quotes from real customers
  • After every project story"Want your home to be our next project?"
  • At the bottom of every phone screenA Call / Text / Schedule bar that never scrolls away

The new site went live in late October 2026. We'll add booked-estimate and close-rate numbers here once 90 days of results are in. For what this company's leads are worth, see the ads case study: $65,309 in ads became $270,277 in signed jobs, and the seven tools we built to follow up on every lead.

Is your website doing this to you right now?

Six questions. Every "no" is a leak we found on this site, one the owner couldn't see.

  1. Can a visitor read your reviews without clicking anything first?

  2. Is there a call or book button on the very first screen of your site on a phone?

  3. Is there a button right next to your reviews, videos and photos?

  4. Can someone request an estimate in under a minute, with no CAPTCHA?

  5. Does every new lead get a confirmation that explains what happens next?

  6. Do your blog and service pages link to the city pages you want to rank?

0 of 6 answered. Be honest: nobody sees your answers.

You can't see the leak from the inside.

That's not a knock on you. You see your website as the owner. Your customers see it at 9 PM on a phone, comparing you with two other companies. Rob reads every page the way they do, checks it against what Google sees, and shows you exactly what's costing you booked appointments, with the fix written out.

Rob does a limited number of audits each week, so he can read every page himself.
